Both the mouth rim and the body of this small jar (soho) are square in section, forming a distinctly angular vessel of individual character. Lotus motifs are painted in underglaze blue on the shoulder, and flowering plant designs are rendered with spare simplicity across the body. The glaze is a blue-white porcelain glaze applied across the entire surface. Produced at the Bunwon-ri kiln during the nineteenth century, this small square jar is notable for the pleasing accord between its unconventional geometric form and its understated decoration — a piece that asserts a quiet individuality within the Bunwon ceramic tradition.
