This undecorated bottle presents a mouth rim that flares and folds outward above a tapering neck, from which the body opens in a generous, full-bodied curve. A broad foot ring anchors the vessel with a sense of quiet stability. The glaze is limpid and evenly lustrous. The piece is presumed to have been produced at the Gwaneumn-ri kiln in Gwangju and related centers around the mid-sixteenth century. Elegant and understated in equal measure, this bottle is thought to have served as a wine vessel — a work whose refined simplicity speaks with an assurance that requires no ornament.
