This elegant bottle presents an outward-flaring mouth rim above a tapering neck; the body expands in a gradual, continuous curve from the shoulder to its widest point at the lower body before narrowing to the base, where a tall, broad foot ring lends the vessel a quality of composed stability. The decoration is organized in two horizontal registers divided by double encircling lines: the upper register carries a band of scrolling arabesque, while the principal field of the body is filled with a rhythmically vital arabesque of fully opened bosanghwa (imaginary flower) motifs, rendered throughout in black inlay. The glaze is a grayish-white with a faint suffusion of pale blue, thinly applied across the entire surface with a refined, even luster. White porcelain of this black-inlaid type was produced primarily at the Usan-ri and Beoncheон-ri kilns in the Gwangju area of Gyeonggi Province around the mid-fifteenth century, and a vessel of so well-resolved a form bearing bosanghwa arabesque decoration of this quality represents an exceptionally rare survival.
